Halloween 2008

So the Scatena family made it through another Halloween! This is one of those holidays that I'm not really that excited about. I have a really hard time spending money on costumes that are worn for an hour, one night, then disposed of 'cause my boys grow too darn fast! So this year we got a $20 costume for Hunter and poor Chandler and Kayden had to wear their football uniforms (I already paid for those, ha ha!). I remembered to snap a picture or two before we ran out the door for trick or treating...don't ask about the face Hunter makes...it is some wierd thing he does for pictures! He was a member of the "Cars" pit crew. He had a really cute Cars hat that he wore for the ward Trunk or Treat last week, but we couldn't find it, so he had to wear the one that came with the costume (which was a little dorky, but oh well...). The boys had a fun time trick or treating and got lots of candy. We were done by 7:30, ordered pizza and ate dinner then watched "Iron Man". All in all a pretty fun night!
In other news...:) Kayden's football team just finished their season 3-6. They were a young team, so they didn't win too many games, but they had a great time and Kayden is an excellent player! He is one of the youngest, yet biggest, kids on the team and he got a lot of playing time. It was fun to watch him and we were very proud of him after every game...he gives it his all! Chandler's team is still in the playoffs. This Saturday they will be playing for the Central Arizona Youth Football Championship! If they win there, they will play for the State title on the 22nd and if they win there, they will go to Florida for Nationals the second week of December!!! It is very fun to watch and the games get more exciting as each week passes! My uncles Steve and Darin coach an older team and they are also still in the playoffs, as well as the team my dad helps coach!!! How fun would that be if we ALL get to go to Florida!! I'll keep you posted!

The First Day of School!!!

So here are the pictures I promised in my last post from the boys' first day of school. The sun was really bright, hence the face Hunter is pulling. We tried like five times to get him to not squint, but he just couldn't do it. Chandler is in the 6th grade, Kayden in the 3rd and Hunter is in a program called Kindersteps. It is a full curriculum kindergarten for kids whose birthdays are after the regular kindergarten cut off. After the year is over, he can either go to the 1st grade or go to a "regular, full-time" kindergarten class. As of right now I plan to put him into kindergarten again, since right now he only goes for about 3 hours, and "regular" kindergarten classes are full-day. I just see this year as a "warm-up" :)...
Anyway...he was so excited to wear his Kung Fu Panda backpack! We saw the movie a couple nights before, and he LOVED it!
They are all 3 loving school (they've been going for about a month now) and really like their teachers.
We are now into our full blown football season...Chandler and Kayden have had practice for 2 1/2 hours every night (M-F) this month. Next month we FINALLY go to 2 nights a week, and games on Saturday. I will be sure to post pictures of each of them at their first game! They look so grown up in their football uniforms! AND...I promise to post the pictures before the end of the season!!! :)

Do you really need a gall bladder???

So last week (Monday) Bryant and I took the boys to Kingman/St. George for a little vacation and to help my mom with a wedding reception for her stepson. We got to Kingman Monday afternoon and went to dinner with Bryant's uncle and aunt. The next morning we got up and went to the IHOP for breakfast and by noon we were back on the road to St. George. At about 3:00 we stopped in Mesquite, Nevada for a potty break and I wasn't feeling so well. When we got back in the car my stomach really started hurting. By the time we got to my mom's (3:30) I was in pretty bad pain in my right side and really nauseated. I just paced around her house in pain for a couple hours until she got home from work, then she asked if we wanted to go to dinner. So we get to the restaurant and are waiting to be sat and I began to realize that it had been close to three hours and the pain just kept getting worse and worse. So Bryant decided we better to go Urgent Care (which was right by the restaurant) and see what was up. So my mom kept the boys to eat dinner and we drove to Urgent Care. The doctor there told me it was probably my gall bladder, but that I would need some bloodwork done and an ultrasound so he sent me to the ER.
Once I was at the ER I started feeling a little better and was begging Bryant to let me leave, but he kept telling me not until they say everything's okay. So the nurse comes in and says "I'm here to put in your IV" and I"m like "Oh no I think you have the wrong room I'm just here for an ultrasound". So she goes to check my chart and comes back and says, "No this is the right room they want me to start an IV". Well, the tears started then and didn't quit. I HATE IV's and so I bawled the whole time she was doing it trying to convince her that I DON'T need an IV to get an ultrasound. So after the IV is in they take me to ultrasound and then bring me back to the room. After about 20 minutes the doctor comes in and says, "You are the official owner of one bad gall bladder". Big dose of tears #2. He tells me that it needs to come out and I once again try to convice him that it doesn't, I will be okay and that I don't even live there, I can't have surgery there, on and on, but it fell on deaf ears so him and Bryant made the arrangements for the surgery while I cried my eyes out. Within about another 30 minutes I was being wheeled into the operating room where the tears continued to flow all the way up until they told me to think of a happy place 'cause I was going to sleep. I guess the surgery went well (I was still in pain, but less a gall bladder). I stayed in the hospital until Wednesday evening and finally got to go home (to my mom's). It wasn't exactly the way I planned on spending a little family vacation, but all's well that ends well! I am pretty sore (they make five small incisions in your abdomen area) but every day I feel a little better! I was still able to help me mom with the reception and we got home Sunday night!
Soooo, my first surgery was a success (other than the river of tears I cried), but those that know me know that's par for the course with me :) Thank you to those who wished me well while I was in the hospital!
My kids start school this Monday, so I will be sure and post first day of school pics!

Our Trip to the Zoo!

I'm not really too excited about the zoo, I have to admit, but Bryant and I decided this last Saturday that we would take the boys. It was a PERFECT day! As you can see in some of the pictures my boys actually have long sleeve shirts on...which is pretty impressive for Phoenix in late May! We had a great time and a little later in the day Beau and Brigette joined the fun! Here are some pictures from our trip to the zoo:

Here's a picture we took just for Teesha:

Aren't they so cute hanging out in their stroller? Don't ask me why Hunter is sitting the way he is! Haha I didn't even notice until after I took the picture!

And here we are saying goodbye!

Bryant's Broken Hand!

So two weeks ago on Saturday morning Bryant came in from playing basketball down at the church and said, "What time does the Urgent Care open?" I told him I didn't know and asked him why. He then held up his hand and this is what I saw:

Of course we made a very quick trip to the Urgent Care for X-rays and sure enough he had broken his hand. It was the bone just underneath his pinky finger. So they soft casted it and told him to see an orthopedict specialist sometime during the next week so they could hard cast it. So on Tuesday he went to the orthopedic specialist and they told him sorry, we can't cast it it needs surgery! I couldn't believe it! Evidentally where he broke it was so close to the joint that it didn't leave enough bone on one side to fuse it back together. They told him it needed surgery and they were gonna have to put a pin in it. So the surgery was scheduled for last Friday. Here are the pics of him waiting to go into surgery:

The surgery only lasted about an hour or so and he came out of it fine. He took pain medication for the first few days, but then was back at work Monday morning. He had to stay at the job he was working on (a movie theater) until almost 1 in the morning because it was taking him so much longer! Oh yeah, I forgot to mention it was his left hand and he is left-handed. So he will have to wear the hard cast for about another 3 weeks (we hope is all). The pin is actually coming out of his hand and comes out of the top of his cast a little bit. You can't see it in the pictures, but it is pretty weird. Here are some pics of him with his cast:

He hasn't let the cast get in his way that's for sure! The day after he got it he made a few "alterations" that allowed him to use his thumb more freely! He will go see the doctor this Tuesday, so I will let you all know what comes of that!

The Worst Blogger EVER!!!

Seriously, I know I am. I check everyone's blogs every day, but I don't EVER update my own! AHHHH...I'm sorry. I promise to do better. So here is a brief overview of our life over the last couple months!

Bryant has been busy at work as usual. He is a very hard worker and continues to do so even after his little "accident" two weeks ago. I will give that experience a post of it's own after I am done with this one. He received a new calling at church, actually two callings. He is the Assistant Scout Master and also something else that I can't remember the name (it has to do with scouts and tracking the boys' progress). They are both really big jobs, so it should be interesting to see how they fit in our already crazy schedules!

I have been just typing typing typing. It seems that's all I do anymore. I really do love it though and love the fact that I can stay home with Hunter, yet still bring in some money each month. My mom, Brigette and Beau were just here for about 10 days (my mom was helping me with our business taxes) and I loved seeing that cute nephew of mine. He is seriously so cute I can't get enough of him.

Chandler stays busy with school and friends. He is starting to get to the age where he is getting phone calls (from boys and girls). I can't belive he is getting so old. How is that possible that he is aging and I'm not??? Haha.

Kayden is playing baseball right now. He is such a natural athlete. He is so fun to watch. He reminds me a lot of watching my brother Michael. It just seems that whatever sport they try, they are a natural at. Kayden is doing really well in school also.

Hunter is such a holy terror!! Haha, okay maybe he's not that bad, but he definitely keeps us all on our toes. He is going to preschool for about another month and then starting in July he will be going to Kindersteps which is like a half-day kindergarden for kids that have a late birthday and miss the kindergarden cutoff. He will still attend all day kindergarden in the 2009-10 school year. He loves school so I am excited for him.

Well, that about sums up our lives lately. We are just running around all the time and of course have our cute puppy Nash in tow. He is such a sweet dog and we all love him to death (Hunter almost literally loves him to death). I will post more pictures of Nash soon, he has gotten big (well as big as shih-tzu's get). Anyway, thank you all for keeping your blogs updated, since I am such a slacker!
